Casa Pepe is a lovely front yard away from the beach. It is also right beside the creek, with a sandbar and cool pool beneath the lower waterfall out back. Pepe’s is a palapa, originally built by a grandson of the Mexican president Porfirio Diaz (a peaceful black sheep of that ruling family). Charming and urbane, Pepe was Isabel’s lover, then friend in her earliest Yelapa years, and he helped her get established in Casa Central.
The kitchen was tiled by a local ceramics artist. A new dining table has been locally crafted from termite-proof parota wood. A sporty new bathroom has two flush toilets with hot & cold water running from a giant shell. A barbecue fire pit sits on one end of the patio. Sweet!
